Frank Ocean & Tyler the Creator Appropriate Suburban Culture in their New Video

We're so used to seeing non-black people borrow borrow images of black bodies and aesthetics in the media as a form of cultural capital. Frank Ocean and Tyler the Creator reverse this trend for once: Black creatives pulling images of white kids playing in suburbia. This is their visual backdrop for Biking

Tyler in particular is known for his immersion in skater culture. For all we know, this could very well be b-roll of the duo and their friends just hanging out. Regardless of intent, it reflects the expanding repertoire of Black possibility in America. It's another artifact bolstering the already strong cache of new expressions including the likes of Get Out, everything-Donald-Glover, Afropunk, and Issa Rae's Insecure. And for that, we're grateful.
